1 Corin 11: The Gift of Communion

  • Speaker: Mark Brown
  • Date: Sunday, January 08, 2012
  • Series: Gifts from God

Sticky Note: (quick summary of the sermon)
-The essence of being a Christian is communion with the living Christ

Communion (the Lord's Supper) is not just "hocus pocus" (you had to be there) but it is...
    -a meal of proclamation
-a picture that preaches the gospel
    -a meal of participation
-not just a symbol, but a real participation in the death of Christ
    -a meal of nourishment
-it is spiritual food, but real food
    -a meal of fellowship
-it also assumes and promotes our unity and harmony with each other in the church
    -a meal of expectation
-it looks backward to the Cross, but forward to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb

STORIES FROM YESTERDAY

"I've experienced going without the communion supper for a long time, and I can tell you first-hand how my soul grew thin."   -- Anthony

"As you were talking about the communion supper cultivating our "closeness" to Christ, I was holding Lilly in my lap and her cheek was against mine.  That's the kind of closeness we have with Christ."  -- Mart

(If a story or thought comes to mind DURING worship, I would LOVE for you to share it.  Take a risk and get my attention!  I've been praying that we have more stories to share of how God is at work.)
